President Wharton's email to the Campus

Dear Colleagues,

It is with great sadness that I notify you of the passing of Bill Arbegast this past Saturday, following his courageous battle with cancer. Bill joined the campus in 2001 and served as the director of the Advanced Materials Processing and Joining Laboratory (AMP). Bill had a distinguished career associated with the aerospace and materials industries that spanned more than three decades. In recognition of his significant technical contributions, the faculty recently voted to award Bill an honorary doctorate of science during the fall 2009 commencement. Bill will be deeply missed by his friends and colleagues from the School of Mines and around the world. A memorial service will be held on campus at 10:30 on Friday, December 11 in the Surbeck Center Ballroom.

Our hearts and prayers go out to Bill's family and friends.

Sincerely,
Robert A. Wharton, Ph.D.
President
